Fragile Freedom is the first song in the TIMECULTs Anti-Trump trilogy. It was written just after Trump had lost office to Biden in 2020. The irony is I've always found political songs distasteful and marks a song to a specific point in time - which I'm not a fan of. However, I felt that what was happening in the US was so important and had potential impacts for the entire planet. Good, competent leaders matter, and it seemed obvious to me that the Americans had just elected someone who was clearly a moron and con man. But the thing that struck me the most about Trump's first term was it highlighted how vulnerable the US system is to have someone clearly unfit and self-interested in office, indeed, how 'fragile freedom' can be in what is often thought to be the world's strongest democracy. And how bad could it be if they elected some maniac that had malicious intent, such an ideological Christan Nationalist, but who was actually intelligent - how much damage could they do to the world? That's where the line ''It's over, but not over" came from. Trump had lost re-election, but the door was open for someone much worse. I never dreamed at the time, that the 'much worse' would be Trump for a second term!

LYRICS

Verse 1
The orange troll emerges
Sits in the main seat
Empowered, enabled by self interest

Verse 2
The orange troll hiding
Hiding under his bridge
Hiding in plain sight
Secrets but no mysteries

Verse 3
Poising the well of knowledge
Lying comes like breathing
Punishment, will it be seen?
He hides in plain site

Bridge
Fragile freedom
We almost lost it all
Fragile Freedom
Maybe close than you think
Fragile Freedom
Stolen in plain sight

Verse 4
It’s over but not over
The template has been pressed
For someone even worse
We still could lose it all

Broken is the second song in the Anti-Trump trilogy. This song is about the broken system that allowed someone like Trump to be elected. The first verse is written from the perspective of someone who voted for Trump. Not a bad person, but someone who sees that the system is broken and somehow hoped that Trump would be the one to fix it. The second verse is from the point of view of the conman. The bridge (one of these days I will write a song with a chorus) and the last verse are both commentary on the situation. I’m holding off writing the third part of the trilogy until we know how all this is going to end.

LYRICS

Verse 1
The system is broken, for someone like me
Only for the rich, all should see
No matter what I do, can’t get ahead
Don’t ask for much, just want my family fed

Verse 2
This is easy, just tell them what they to hear
Stoking the fires of hatred and fear
I’ll tell them what’s broken, but not how to fix
I don’t know anything, it’s all part of the grift

Bridge
The frauds are in charge now
Everything’s broken
Gaming the system
Taking their gold
What the clowns don’t see
When you steal from the tree
Lies poison the soil
Leaving the corruption of weeds

Verse 3
How did we get here, what did we learn?Frauds of a feather scam together
Worship of the green God over the good
Commandments of greed

Write up on Lycanthrope @Danny

Lyrics to Lycanthope @Danny

Not complicated - this song is all about getting old and reflecting on getting old. I suffer from gout - and the original working title for this song was 'Satan's Gout' - which is where the outro lyrics 'Satan's burning fire trapped and cannot move' come from.
This song was originally a bit more complex with an inverted arpeggio bridge, but we felt this bit disrupted the flow of the song too much, so it was cut and final version was kept a more 'balls to the wall' rock song.

Verse 1
Longer road in the rear vision mirror
Less days ahead than are left behind
Tick tock, feeling the clock
Putting more in, getting less out

Verse 2
No time to take life’s shit
Older but are you wiser?
Sitting on a pile of life’s effort
Goals meet, but do you reflect?

Bridge
Life slowing, the good and the bad
Living in memories or in the moment?

Outro
Satan’s burning fire
Caged and can’t move
Satan’s burning fire
One step forward, two steps back

The name ‘Jimmy’ refers to James Webb, the former NASA administrator after which the James Webb space telescope was named. And that’s what the songs about – the James Webb space telescope. When we were working on the song, we just called it Jimmy for short. The name ‘Jimmy Is a Time Machine’, is a nod to the naming style of some Primus songs, like ‘John the Fisherman’, ‘Tommy the Cat’ or ‘Jerry Was a Race Car Driver’. The time machine part is because telescopes not only see thing far away, but also as they were back in time. If James Webb is showing images of the ‘Pillars of Creation’ for example, which are approximately 7000 light years from the telescope. You’re not seeing the pillars as they are now, you are seeing how they were 7000 years ago because it took that long for the light to reach us. So, Jame Webb is looking back in time as well across great distances.

Verse 1
Built to see the dawn of universe
10 billion drops in the ocean
What will be seen, what will we find?

Verse 2
Survived the test of small, minded men.
See the era of recombination
In dark times, it shows us the light

Chorus
To know, from the beginning, of time.
What will we see, what will we find?
No-one could believe the light that was seen.
Changes everything, no change.
